Summer Heat & Industrial Equipment: What You Need to Know

Kerala's summer months bring extreme heat and humidity that puts serious stress on industrial electronics. Temperatures regularly exceed 38–40°C, and when combined with factory heat loads, control panel temperatures can reach dangerous levels.

How Heat Kills Electronics — Every 10°C rise in operating temperature roughly halves the life expectancy of electronic components. Capacitors, MOSFETs, IGBTs, and electrolytic components are particularly vulnerable to thermal stress.

Protect Your Control Panels — Ensure all panel air conditioning and ventilation systems are serviced before summer. Check door seals, clean filters, and verify thermostat set points. A panel that runs at 45°C instead of 35°C will have dramatically higher failure rates.

VFDs and Drives — Variable frequency drives are among the most heat-sensitive components in your facility. Ensure adequate clearance around drives, clean heatsinks of dust buildup, and verify cooling fans are operating correctly.

Capacitor Inspection — Electrolytic capacitors in power supplies and drives degrade rapidly with heat. Bulging or leaking capacitors should be replaced immediately — they are a common cause of summer failures.

Create a Summer Maintenance Checklist — Before peak summer: service all panel ACs, clean heatsinks and filters, check capacitors, verify fan operation, test thermal protection settings, and backup all PLC programs.
